The first Direct Entry Engineers was in 1947 - ten were selected to go through the 49th and the 50th PIC (Pilots Initial Course) and were sent to the ITW in Coimbatore in Jan 1947. The names in those 2 batches were Razdan, CS Naik, Chenna Keshu, PD Chopra, Roy Choudhry, S Desai, Willie Raj (in the 49th) and Rallia Ram, Arora and J Chakko (in the 50th). Due to impendance of India's Independence later that year, this Engrs did not go through to get our 'Wings', but were sent to the IAF Station Tambaram, under Gp Capt R Rajaram to be trained as Tech (Eng) Officers. This Course was called Zero Course in among later generations of Tech officers in the IAF
